You’ve experienced painful or unpredictable periods, heavy bleeding, mood swings, fatigue, or bloating since your teens and were told it’s “just part of being a woman”? You’ve been dismissed as “PMS-ing” or being “hormonal”?
You tried the birth control pill, patch, or IUD but are still feeling miserable. You may be experiencing the common side effects of artificial hormones, including anxiety, depression, insomnia, fatigue, decreased libido, and vaginal dryness. Do you feel like you “don’t know who you are anymore” on the pill?
You’ve tried supplements, diets, exercise… Period tracking apps, ovulation predictor kids, taking your temperature. Anything to feel better, more like yourself. Anything to help understand you own cycle, your fertility, what’s going on in your body.
It’s not your fault that you’re feeling sick and tired, confused, and overwhelmed. We’ve never been taught how to have a healthy menstrual cycle because we’ve been taught that hormonal imbalance is normal. We’ve never been given authentic sexual education.
Hormonal contraception is often the ONLY solution offered to us for reproductive health issues. This treatment doesn’t address the root cause of your symptoms and it creates even MORE hormonal imbalances.
You’re tired of not being taken seriously by your doctor and you believe deep down that there’s got to be a better way.
Hi, I’m Dr. Jessica Whelan
ND (Naturopathic doctor), FCP, MC (FertilityCare™ Practitioner and Medical consultant) and CEO of St Joseph FertilityCare™ Center
Growing up on a farm in Maryland, I was always fascinated by the wisdom of nature. I loved learning how plants could be used as medicine. Being in the woods, fields, streams, and under the stars is where I felt most alive, most myself.
I went to college for music and early childhood education. Music is medicine and children are hope. After several years of teaching preschool, I felt the call to continue my own education.
My anatomy professor once told me about naturopathic medicine – a medical approach that treats the whole-person (mind, body, and soul), that believes in the healing power of the body, and treats the root cause.
After struggling most of my life with menstrual cycle and hormone issues, this natural medicine option felt like a refreshing option to the “one size fits all” fear-based medicine I had been exposed to in my teens and 20s.
I went to National College of Natural Medicine in Portland, OR, and received my Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine. After graduation, a one-year residency job brought me to Vermont. The welcoming community here compelled me to stay and I opened my own business (became the CEO of Dr. Jessica Ann Whelan, ND, PLLC). Today I get to combine my education experience with natural medicine, as I teach clients how to be empowered in their own holistic healthcare with sustainable, and life-long tools.
